Client: An AI-powered research tool that helps you rapidly locate and summarize evidence from peer-reviewed scientific literature. It provides citations and direct links to the original sources for verification, and supports workflows such as comparing studies and drafting research summaries.

Role: Backend-leaning engineer responsible for building and maintaining scalable services and APIs, with occasional contribution to front-end development. The role emphasizes backend architecture, data modeling, integrations, and reliability, with exposure to modern front-end and AI-driven features.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs

Build RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs

Implement business logic, data models, and integrations

Ensure performance, scalability, and reliability

Collaborate with frontend engineers

Write clean, well-tested code and participate in Agile processes

Must-Have:

5+ years backend or full-stack experience

Strong Node.js backend development

Proficiency in TypeScript / modern JavaScript (ES6+)

Experience with REST and/or GraphQL APIs

Database experience (SQL and/or NoSQL)

Authentication & authorization knowledge

Understanding of backend scalability & reliability

Unit & integration testing experience

Git + Agile/Scrum experience

Nice to Have

React & component-based frontend exposure

HTML/CSS & responsive design knowledge

CI/CD familiarity

Frontend testing basics (Jest, RTL)

Accessibility (WCAG), SEO awareness

Exposure to AI/GenAI integrations (LLM APIs, chat, AI-assisted workflows
