Senior Python Developer (Part-Time) – Fixed term 9 months / Contractor type
About the Project
This is a web-based application designed to support the PIPO (Process-In/Process-Out) transition process, helping organizations identify and execute the most effective transition strategies.
The application is built using modern technologies, with a Java backend and Vue.js frontend. A key component of the application's optimization and business logic is currently implemented in MOSEL, the modeling language used by FICO Xpress.
We are looking for a Senior Python Developer to lead the migration of this optimization logic from MOSEL to Python, ensuring functional equivalence, performance, and maintainability.
Role Overview
As a Senior Python Developer, you will be responsible for analyzing existing optimization models and business logic written in MOSEL and translating them into Python. This is primarily a code migration and refactoring role, focused on preserving existing functionality rather than developing new features.
You will work closely with the technical team to ensure seamless integration of the migrated Python components within the broader application ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and understand existing optimization and business logic implemented in MOSEL.
- Rewrite and migrate MOSEL code into Python while maintaining functional accuracy and consistency of results.
- Validate migrated solutions through testing and comparison with existing outputs.
- Collaborate with the development team to integrate Python-based components into the application architecture (Java backend and Vue.js frontend).
- Optimize and refactor migrated code to improve readability, maintainability, and long-term supportability.
- Create technical documentation covering architecture, logic, assumptions, and implementation details.
- Provide recommendations and best practices for future maintenance and enhancement of the migrated solution.
Required Qualifications
- Senior-level experience in Python development.
- Strong hands-on experience with Python optimization libraries/frameworks (such as OR-Tools, PuLP, Pyomo, Gurobi, CPLEX, or similar).
- Proven experience working with complex algorithms, optimization models, or mathematical programming solutions.
- Ability to analyze and understand legacy code and perform structured code migration/refactoring.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated reliability and consistency in delivering high-quality outcomes in a part-time engagement model.
Nice to Have
- Experience with MOSEL and/or FICO Xpress.
- Basic knowledge of Java to support understanding of application architecture and integration points.
- Familiarity with web-based enterprise applications and system integration.
- Experience migrating code between programming languages or optimization platforms.
Collaboration type: Contractor (PFA/SRL equivalent) for an initial period of 9 months - with potential extension based on project needs.
