Team leader / Data specialist – ETL Data Stage & Netezza developer - IBM - Romania - Romania
(2013-12 - 2015-02)
Team lead on major ETL/Netezza project for Alpha Bank Greece, working on-site with international team. Responsible for development of ETL artifacts and served as designated dev team analyst to clarify business specifications.
- Build an ETL DataStage / Netezza ecosystem to integrate all bank's source systems (~16 source systems) in order to load the newly created data warehouse & data marts (project started from zero)
- Development of necessary artefacts (IBM DataStage objects: parallel jobs and sequences, IBM Netezza objects: stored procedures, tables etc.) for assembling the ETL needed mechanism
- Due to extensive previous banking experience as programmer analyst, acted as "designated dev team analyst" to clarify the business specifications, especially in the early stages of the project (even created VBA based code to transpose those specifications layout and to identify the changes – since ~ 100 specs versions were issued in the first year alone)
- Support UAT testing and issues fixing
- Support Production issues fixing
- Assimilate new technologies (IBM DataStage, IBM Netezza) and methodologies (ETL framework – an IBM asset which sets the standard for ETL implementations, IBM Banking Industry Data Model etc.)
- Gain significant experience during implementation of a project having high complexity: best practices, improve the ability to overcome various challenges occurred on the way, expect the unexpected etc.
- Major contribution to the technical solution (from design to development): by developing highly flexible ETL flows and very performant Netezza code, resulting a highly performant solution for loading the bank's data warehouse and one of the bank's data mart (e.g. at some point, due to increased volume of data in some rejection tables, the combined ETL-Netezza solution was able to process ~ 1 billion records in ~ 1 hour – which alone stood as a confirmation of the extremely high processing power
- Set programing standards proven to be highly effective during the solution design
- Code optimization - from the highest level (solution architecture - e.g. implementation of 2 DELTA layers : one source-oriented and the other target-oriented in order to minimize the number of the records being loaded into data warehouse) to the lowest level (objects development - e.g. managed to optimize Netezza stored procedures to compute DELTA – the image containing only modified records - on more than 80 Millions rows coming from source, in less than five minutes, etc.)
- Successfully coordinated the IBM Romania development team to meet the projects milestones by actively participation at project planning meetings, assignation of development tasks (resulted after new requirements analysis) in concordance with each man's experience and coding abilities, organize the UAT and especially PRODUCTION support activity which had to be covered 24/7 on customer site in Pireus, Greece for a period of almost 8 months when data for 2 and a half years up to date had to be proc
