Attending Essex University has provided me with a meaningful education that will contribute to my continued professional development. The cross-cultural communication and applied linguistics MA gave me new tools and methods for the next stage of my educational journey. The program has already introduced me to techniques from a different educational system than I am accustomed to.
MA in Applied Linguistics provided me with the opportunity to teach anywhere in the world and obtain knowledge of educational systems in various countries.
Studying for a master’s degree has been a new challenge that I feel prepared for. My time as an undergrad helped to hone my time management skills. During this time, I was pursuing The Private Diploma in Education, according to the accredited hours' System, Professional Diploma in Education Quality and Educational Specialization of Contemporary Education System according to accredited hours system, and Bachelor of Arts &
Education (English as a Medium of Instruction), Department of English, Faculty of Education. During my career in teaching has allowed me to develop my leadership, communication, organization and teamwork skills. These skills are what helped me develop into a strong and effective student-centred approach, and using attractive teaching pedagogies.
The MA program has fitted well with my career goals to provide meaningful and inclusive education. Studying BA in English allowed me to be fluent in my content area. During my undergraduate time, I had learned many methods to provide an inclusive classroom for the various types of learners.
In the different courses I learned techniques to make alterations to lessons that address the students’ needs. English as a second language students were often left out of the discussion. I hope to broaden my knowledge on how to provide a meaningful education to English as second language learners.
Having the ability to tailor the course to my individual interests will help me in achieving my goal of creating an inclusive, exploratory and collaborative classroom.
English pushes students to use many life skills beyond the content learned in the classroom. English can be interactive, experimental, and collaborative. These are characteristics that make up a productive classroom.
Using a combination of independent and inquiry-based learning provides my students with a multitude of skills for success. These learning methods are most effective when students can contribute and communicate with ease. The specialist pathway that offers modules within the areas of applied linguistics has provided me with the opportunity to build lessons to match individual student interests and needs.
Therefore, learning about the techniques and theories within this master program has allowed me to tailor my personal methods of teaching for each of the English modules and subjects. English is often a subject that students shy away from. I want to challenge this ideology.
These elements expand student learning in areas beyond the content to create lasting life skills. Being able to combine the knowledge this program provides with my previous teaching skill set will ensure that I create a positive and purposeful learning experience.
I sincerely believe that the Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics, with its coursework and excellent research areas provides the appropriate setting for me to pursue future research study in my chosen field of interest. I look forward to an anticipated positive outcome of Application for Instructor/ Lecturer - English Language Center in the coming months.
