Lead Environment & Sustainability Engineer at Farabi Petrochemicals

(Sep 2019 – Present)

Farabi petrochemical is the largest producer of Liner Alkyl Benzene (LAB) in Middle East.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement approved environmental & sustainability policies, processes, procedures and monitors the adherence of these systems to achieve the commitments, objectives, and goals of Farabi corporate.
• Discuss daily matters with process and operations to ensure compliance with established standards and regulatory requirements of royal commission environment regulations (RCER) and Farabi integrated management systems.
• Monitor continuous emission values, industrial wastewater quality, noise levels, hazardous waste generation/handling and disposal to make sure the compliance.
• Obtain, update, and maintain environmental permit to construct and operate for the company, make sure all the requirements applied in EPC and EPO to be implement and fulfil.
• Lead to prepare scope, technical review of all proposals submitted by vendors for the environmental services,

and performance monitoring/testing contracts.

• Coordinate with RC approved vendors to conduct on time performance monitoring sampling and testing programs (fugitive emission/LDAR, point sources emission testing, Ground Water analysis, Noise survey etc.)

and evaluate the results to make sure all the emission values or impact of other environmental pollutants must be well within the permissible limits of environmental regulations.

• Perform environmental baselines studies (EBS) for for the development of environmental impact assessment study to Farabi Yanbu Project.
• Review of environment impact assessment (EIA), ENVID and other baseline studies carried out by environmental consultant (WKC) at the stage of design, construction and commissioning of Farabi Yanbu.
• Being as member of Farabi corporate sustainability committee and coordinator for Farabi Yanbu complex,

prepare the sustainability KPI’s and estimate GHG-CO2 equivalents, energy/power intensity, waste generation,

water consumptions etc.

• Provide technical support for environmental remediation projectsincluding remediation systems requirements,

design considerations (conceptual/design) and make sure all regulatory requirements shall incorporate in project stage as part of engineering standards set by local (royal commission) or international (USEPA)

regulatory authorities.

• Review and ensure to complete the sustainability reporting requirements of GPCA, GRI, ACI and other stakeholders.
• Lead initiator for the implementation of 3R philosophy for the waste management at Yanbu complex.
• Develop environmental impact aspect register of Farabi complex covering all the sections (operations,

maintenance, safety, logistics, product handling, etc.) calculate activity based initial risk, identify or implement control measures to bring the residual risk at low or acceptable level.

• Responsible for the Implementation of ISO & Responsible Care requirements of environment management systems (ISO-14001 :2015).
• Participate in internal and external audits for the ISO integrated management systems certifications.
• Provide inputs for the development of acid flare and hydrocarbon flare scenarios for the operating case,

emergency case (power failure) and fire case and continuous monitor for optimization of flaring.

• Prepare, review, and update environmental emergency response plan, incident investigations, HAZOP studies and recommendation reports.
• Coordinate with engineering disciplines and conduct mechanical completion walkdowns, evaluate and follow up for the closure of punches.
• Participate in PSSR reviews for the assigned units to make sure the readiness of the systems for safe and environmentally viable commissioning.
• Mentoring juniors and providing trainings to relevant stakeholders for environment management processes.
