Physical Intelligence - Day 62

I have not engaged swimming though after this morning the thought about how swimming cushions the body while still exercising is a consideration.  The consideration is because I noticed my right knee is not as fluid as my left knee.  When I bend my left knee it simply bends but with my right I can feel a very slight clicking noise and that is something I want to take a little more seriously if only as a precaution.  There has been some knee surgery in my family, most due to wear and tear rather than hereditary factors, so becoming mindful about prevention is better than having to search for a cure.

This pulled me towards learning a little more about knee health.  For sure when the internal cushioning function of any knee is worn, then the knee begins to rub bone on bone and from that it moves us onto the slow road towards knee replacement surgery.    Having seen my dad go through two new knee replacements the first thing is knowing that they do not put you out, that they freeze the leg and then begin hammering, drilling and probably sawing and not with finesse.  That is not something I want to endure considering that I just about get through just a normal dental routine.

Then there is the after-op recovery.  To be confined to a bed and to ensure the leg is tended so that there is no danger of infection or blisters.  It is not a one and done thing like a dentist, it is a prolonged recovery, so if knee replacement surgery is something we can avoid, I would like to know more about how to keep my knees healthy.  That is not a cue to end physical exercise on the treadmill for this remaining month, but to get more physically intelligent about my knees.

I have to take on good faith that the people in these video's know what they are talking about or it is based on the latest thinking.Having seen a young person having to go to knee surgery in their early twenties,  it shows me that knees are one of those things we do not take as seriously as we should.  A few moments of prevention is better than a lot of moments of pain and/or later extensive surgery.  While I don't have any pain in my knees, I found it interesting to see the exercises physiotherapists would recommend for knee pain.  As I watch these video's in tandem, that by itself will bring up either conflicting information or more importantly self-developing awareness about knee health.

What I picked up in the course of looking at knee health is that sometimes the root cause of knee injuries is not from the knee but poor posture or poor walking or foot care.  The important thing is getting a little more educated about what enacts on the knee and so first of all understanding how the knee joint works.  So it is worth my time studying that also :

Finally I want to get more aware of the lubricant aspect of the knee and to know what synovial fluid is and why problematic extra fluid in the knee  that is not synovial a but salt-water cause.

And finally - just a basic overview of knee safety :
