All my life, I always have been passionate in teaching, no matter what skill. When I was young, i had swimming lessons on my own and learned well. I was recognised as a CAT A swimmer in the army, and thus able to swim well.
Also, I worked as a tour guide in the Singapore Science Center before for several months, thus am exposed to children and how to interact and teach them. Different classes of school children have come to the Science Center for the exhibition I oversaw with a few others, and I helped to handle multiple classes of children at a time, and am thus experienced with handling young children. Several activities which i oversaw with them turned out successful, and they had a positive experience.
I also taught adults on the job. I see teaching as a strict job requiring the successful impartation of skills, and am passionate in making sure those under me learn, no matter how long they may take. Patience is key, and I believe that slow and steady beats hotheadedness and forceful training.
It does me great joy to watch people learn and attain to newer heights in life!
My greatest non academic acheivement would be conquering Moung Biang in Brunei during NS. The trecherous mountain was littered with tree branches, sticks and fallen logs coupled with huge boulders. As the teams medic, my job was to tend to the men, and had an extremely heavy bagpack piled with medical equipment.
Being a smaller size guy, it wad exceedingly tough to scale the mountain, much less tend to any injuries the men had. With little resources for myself, as i didnt want to carry more, I braved the 5 day 4 night climb with maggi mee and several litres of water. The rain, flesh eating bugs and humidity added to the difficulty, making it the toughest thing I have done in my entire 25 years on earth yet.
Finishing the climb and returning back to base is one of the greatest victories I have ever had in my entire life, with my men and myself included safe and sound.
