Elissa Oh

I have been teaching English and Literature for the past decade and am a 200hr-trained yoga teacher. I believe that education should be equitable and holistic. Currently pursing a Masters of Sciences in the Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health at King's College London and, in the future, I hope to expand the body of work on socio-emotional literacy.

1. The Learning Lab, Singapore (Aug 2017 - Present) Specialist Teacher Associate (English), 7th – 10th Grade/ Secondary School
   • Participate in weekly sharing of lesson plans with other teachers
   • Mentoring of younger teachers by sharing best practices with them weekly.
   • Actively tie lessons to real-world scenarios, case studies and application of knowledge to value-add to students’ education on certain topics.
   • Actively engaged in conversation with parents, via phone or e-mail, on their child’s progress in class.
   • DooGoodSG (April 2015, registered in 2016 – Nov 2019) Founder/ CEO
   • Worked with youths-at-risk, ex-offenders and volunteer working professionals and youths to bring events of social impact to the masses.
   • Crafted social initiatives that engaged the community and involves them in the work of existing charities or non-profit organisations.
   • Used varied media platforms (social media, press releases etc.) to reach out to target audiences to capture over 700 participants and over 1000 donors with over 5000 interactions online for each event.
   • Successfully raised $20,000 and above for selected beneficiaries through each event.
   • Name Events: The 50cube Hike - a 50km hike that involved hikers in the beneficiaries’ work which was subsequently used as a mechanism for garnering donations.

   Big Family Day

   Out - a space for the whole family to have fun and engage with the beneficiaries – featured kids’ rides, a flea market and a full day on-stage programme.

1. King’s College London (Class of 2022)

   -Masters, Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health

   • Began in November 2022
   • National Institute of Education, Singapore (Class of 2013) Post-graduate Diploma in Education, English Language & Literature
   • Developed a Language Arts curriculum that provides scope to move the student from the receptive to productive skills of the language and centers around student-accessible themes of music and locally-published writings.
   • Singapore Management University, Singapore (Class of 2007) Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Psychology and Corporate Communications
   • Wrote research papers in areas of personal interest: “If a country is patriarchal and is based on a caste system, poverty will be high”, “The Tattoo Culture in Singapore: The Tattooed Singaporean and the Public’s Perception”, “Volume of Music & Selective Attention: At what volume does music best facilitate selective attention?”
