About
Senior frontend developer with 8 years of experience, most of it in React, Next.js, and TypeScript. I've spent a good chunk of my career on crypto and financial products, including a cryptocurrency investing app where I built wallet connection flows, live price feeds, and exchange integrations. I like getting into the details of a user flow and pointing out where things feel off, rather than just building whatever the ticket says.
I can hold my own on the backend when a feature needs it, but the frontend is where I do my best work. I'm used to small, remote teams where requirements start vague and get sorted out in conversation with the PM. I work in English day to day and also speak Chinese (Mandarin), which helps on distributed teams.
Experience
Senior Frontend Developer at Kaspersky (2023-09 – 2024-12)
- Worked on the SD-WAN web UI and its plugin projects, building out the interface in React 17 and TypeScript.
- Owned several of the more complex config screens, which meant a lot of nested forms, conditional fields, and validation logic handled with Redux-Form and Formik.
- Styled components with SCSS and kept the layout consistent across the different screen sizes the product had to support.
- Sat with the backend team fairly often to agree on REST contracts before either side started building, which cut down on rework.
- Pushed back on a few designs where the click path was longer than it needed to be, and got two of those flows simplified before release.
- Wrote unit tests in Jest and e2e coverage in Cypress for the parts of the app that changed most, so regressions got caught before QA.
- Helped move local development onto Docker so everyone was running the same environment.
Senior Frontend Developer at Angry Nerds (2021-03 – 2023-08)
- Built and shipped features on both sides of the stack — Next.js on the front, Nest.js on the back — for a client product that went through a couple of major releases.
- Talked to the client directly most weeks to pin down what they actually wanted, since the briefs usually came in loose and needed turning into real tasks.
- Reviewed most of the team's PRs and used that as a way to keep the codebase consistent and catch problems early rather than after merge.
- Set up the CI/CD in GitHub Actions, including the test and deploy steps, so releases stopped being a manual chore.
- Sized and estimated work during planning, which the team leaned on for sprint commitments and timelines.
- Refactored a slow part of the app that was re-rendering more than it should have, and got the page load down noticeably.
- Took part in the usual Scrum routine — standups, sprint reviews, retros — and mentored one junior dev through their first few months.
Senior Frontend Developer at Xebia (2020-04 – 2021-02)
- Added new features to a couple of existing React apps and cleaned up areas that had gotten hard to maintain.
- Built and looked after REST APIs, including the OAuth flow and the usual auth and security checks.
- Worked across Postgres, MongoDB, and DynamoDB depending on the service, and spent time tuning queries that were slowing things down.
- Paired with less experienced devs when they got stuck, mostly on React state and API integration.
- Joined the design discussions early so the frontend wasn't an afterthought once the API was built.
- Ran knowledge-sharing sessions on a few frontend topics the team wanted to get better at.
Frontend Developer at J'JO (JJO-ONE PTE. LTD.) (2019-01 – 2020-03)
- Worked on J'JO, a product for people who wanted to invest in crypto without dealing with the usual exchange complexity.
- Built the wallet connection and account flows on the frontend, and wired them up to the services that talked to the exchanges.
- Connected the app to several crypto exchanges so users could trade across them from one place, which meant handling a lot of different API quirks.
- Built the real-time price display using WebSockets and an event-driven setup, so quotes on screen stayed live even when one feed dropped.
- Used TypeScript throughout, with GraphQL on the data layer, and helped keep the services it relied on (Redis, Prisma, Node.js) in good shape when the frontend needed changes there.
- Paid attention to load on the price screens, since the data comes in fast and constantly and the UI had to keep up without freezing.
- Worked in a Scrum team with Jira, and helped keep the CI/CD pipeline in shape.
Frontend Developer at Diagnostyka Digital Hub (2018-02 – 2018-12)
- Built the client-side screens for the Diagnostyka product and wired them up to the platform's REST APIs.
- Handled the data-heavy views — lists, filters, and forms — and kept them responsive as the datasets grew.
- Worked closely with the API side to shape the endpoints around what the UI actually needed, and built a chunk of those endpoints myself.
- Wrote automated tests to cut down on the bugs that were making it to production and causing downtime.
- Helped set up the delivery pipeline with Docker and Kubernetes so deploys were repeatable instead of hand-rolled.
- Worked in a Scrum team through planning, reviews, and retros, and made sure what I shipped matched what was agreed.
Frontend Developer at Idea Platform (2017-05 – 2017-12)
- Built tools and interfaces for the Idea Platform in React, Redux, and TypeScript.
- Worked through the functional design with the team and then built the client-server side of it.
- Spent time getting the state management right, since the app had a lot of moving parts on screen at once.
- Worked with other departments to make sure what we built lined up with what the business actually needed.
- Reached for the right data structures when a screen was doing too much work, which kept the UI responsive.
- Fixed usability issues as they came up, based on feedback from the people using the tools internally.
Software Engineer at Plutora (2016-02 – 2017-04)
- Worked on product integrations using the Clarity, Git, QTest, and Jira APIs so the tools talked to each other properly.
- Deployed apps to AWS EC2 behind Nginx and kept them running with PM2.
- Built a Chrome DevTools extension that helped the team debug and inspect a state-management framework.
- Handled a mix of API work, SEO, custom email templates, and the social login integration.
- Got comfortable with the web fundamentals here — REST, HTTP/2, JSON — and applied them across the integrations.
- Worked in an Agile setup across the wider dev team and picked up how the company shipped software.
