My interest lies in generating public spaces and creating the sense of ownership in public housings overseas. Growing up with HDBs, I took this designed system as granted only to realize even for developed countries like Australia, they were incapable to take care of all of their housing needs.
The local government faced a long list of issues. Insufficient housing, inadequate quality to last through the seasons, unruliness due to lack of sense of belonging, lack of maintenance, discord between existing private housings and public housings etc. Some of these issues can be resolved by extra funding and others can be resolved by community cohesion activities. This is where I came in to propose a bonding exercise that is sustainable and economic, a growing housing acting as a garden rack where the residents find their sense of ownership through the classic American front porch dream.
