Shema Tan

Hello! I am a final-year undergraduate seeking full-time opportunities in marketing, advertising and the social sector. I'd best describe myself as an ambitious, highly motivated, and creatively-driven individual with a keen interest in entrepreneurship, creating content and connecting people globally.

I have ample professional experience in the field of digital marketing, public relations, content creation, social media marketing, content writing and graphic design.

At integrated marketing company Archetype and video-streaming service HOOQ Singapore, I worked as a public relations and communications intern. I liaised directly with several notable B2B and B2C clients, and have written and pitched press releases and bylines and created media responses for several events. I was also responsible for event management and social media marketing.

At sustainable fashion company Our Barehands, I worked as a digital marketing intern and was tasked with conceptualizing their rebranding campaign. I was primarily involved with campaign development, ideation and graphic design. This led me to create website logos, Instagram gifs/stickers, Instagram filters, social media posts, etc.

At digital marketing company Undrcut Digital Marketing, I have also worked as a part-time content writer and editor. I researched and wrote articles spanning topics such as beauty, entertainment, lifestyle, interior design, travelling, and more. Later on, I led a team of eight writers in delivering high-quality articles for our clients.

I have also been dabbling in freelance graphic design throughout my professional experience. My most notable project would be assisting KPMG in designing their 2021 Whitepaper report, titled “The Future of Talent Development”.

I am currently a final-year student pursuing Sociology (Hons) at Nanyang Technological University with a minor in Modern Languages (French). My interests include culture, race and ethnicity, and migration studies.

As a sociology student, I am equipped with critical-thinking skills, research abilities and a curious lens to understand, empathise and help marginalized groups in society. I am also in the midst of developing my thesis on understanding the assimilation experiences of second-generation migrants in Singapore.

I have recently embarked on an exchange program (Jan-June 2022) under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FaSoS) at the University of Maastricht (the Netherlands). I chose this University as it has consistently ranked ninth place in the 2022 Times Higher Education (THE) 'Young Universities' for the best young universities in the world.
