Wee Chuan Ong

I began my career as a Process Engineer at GSK, where I discovered a passion for process improvement and optimization, particularly in automation and packaging. Early on, I had the opportunity to work on several turnkey projects, which fueled my interest in technology. This interest inspired me to transition into software engineering.

I furthered my expertise by enrolling in the TFIP program and earning a postgraduate diploma in Software Engineering from the National University of Singapore. I am now looking to pursue a master's in Computer Science for personal development.

Software Engineer in DBS (Aug 2023 – Present) 

• Collaborate with senior engineers to develop and maintain enterprise-level applications.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, and deployment.
• Enhance the bank's internal digital platforms, with a focus on optimizing performance and improving user experience.
• Utilize JavaScript, SQL, and Spring Boot to build and integrate various backend services.
• Assist in automating repetitive tasks and processes to improve operational efficiency.

Achievement

• UI/UX Enhancement:
  • Enhance the bank's internal digital platforms by streamlining workflow processes and enhancing the overall interface design
    • Developed functionalities allowing users to make real-time accounting adjustments directly within the table, eliminating the need to upload external Excel spreadsheets.
    • Created interactive Table UI, enabling users to easily view, interact with, and download required reports via SQL / AWS.

    • Developed a Dashboard that enables users to monitor and view the financial audit status
    • Conducted usability testing and gathered user feedback to refine the dashboard for optimal functionality and ease of use.
• Back end Service Development:
  • Developed backend services to support the required functionalities for the above mentioned
  • Ensured seamless integration of new services with existing systems through collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Senior Chemical Engineer in GSK (Jul 2015 - Nov 2022) 

• Support process development, monitoring, improvement activities for biopharmaceutical manufacturing facilities and several New Chemical Entities (NCE) Tech Transfer projects (2017-2021).
  • Developed and updated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the manufacturing facility and delivered associated training.

Achievement

• Industry 4.0 Optimization: Led a small team of four to study and optimize the Enzymatic Amoxicillin Packaging System, achieving the following:
  • Increased production throughput from 750 tons per annum to 1900 tons per annum.
  • Reduced manpower requirements from a five-person to a two-person operation.
  • Enhanced equipment reliability, resulting in an estimated savings of 344k SGD in lost man-hours through predictive maintenance and efficient resource management.
  • Perform extensive modification to existing robotics systems (in-house) using traditional fabrication methods as well as testing new prototype designs via 3D printing.
• NCE Tech Transfer: Involved in several tech transfer projects (Enzymatic Amoxicillin, Pazopanib, Doutegravir) 
  • Implementation of robust quality control measures, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and minimizing deviations.:
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including R&D, quality assurance, and production, to ensure successful scale-up and integration into existing manufacturing processes.
  • Training of manufacturing personnel on new processes and equipment, ensuring smooth operation and maintenance post-transfer.
  • Involve in various equipment design (Isolators, vacuum pump, filter dryer, magnetic separators and etc) and perform overall HAZOP analysis for the relevant sub-systems.

Additive Manufacturing Instructor in Ev3DM (Dec 2018 – May 2022)

• Responsible for delivering and evaluating course and workshop instruction
  • Align training materials to meet learners' needs.
