I am Long Xin Yi, an Information Systems undergraduate studying in National University of Singapore (School of Computing). I am an enthusiastic and quick learner and I am fascinated with web development as I am able to develop my own ideas into physical web/ web apps that can benefit the lives of the people around me.
My latest project was a web app for a hackathon: Hack and Roll, where I worked with my friends to create web app to help NUS students find the best place to study in NUS. I have worked on several projects based on React JS and recently I started a web app project as a dance journal (dance is one of my non academic passions) to learn more about styling as well as enhancing user experience through the smaller details. I wanted to incorporate dance into web development as I am passionate about both of them and I wanted to create something that shows more of my character.
Other than technical skills, I am confident in being both a good team leader and player. Last summer, I was in charge of a dance production where I worked with 3 other choreographers to lead more than 50 dancers. Through the experience, I have learnt how to manage a project while working with large groups of people. Conflict resolution and quick problem solving skills were also skills that I have worked on through the project.
I would like to endeavour into web development. I am actively seeking for internships so that I can gain experience working in the tech industry and know what it's like to work in a website/web app. Technical skills wise, I would like to learn more about database and its integration into the frontend side of web development.
I would also like to work on my frontend skills to design better websites for a wider range of users (customers, companies, etc). For personal goals, I would like to connect with others in the industry and learn from them. I am also interested in how they got to where they are and about their future projects and endeavours.
I believe the tech industry is ever-evolving and thus other than improving my own skills I would also need to listen to others share more so that I can keep up with the changes.
As an Information Systems student in NUS, I have been learning much about data and backend, as well as how to design systems for enterprises. I learn about use case diagrams and many other important tools needed to plan a system to ensure maximum efficiency. Throughout my school journey I have also grown familiar with languages like Java, JavaScript and Python. Close collaboration with my friends on projects and hackathons also taught me to be efficient with Git and Github
