I have a dream that technologies could better everyone’s life. Thus, my BEng, PhD, and postgrad research have been focusing on applied research for ideating, optimizing, and realizing protypes in engineering and biomedical applications for 25 years (e.g., waveguides, lasers, LEDs, needle probe, biosensors, and diagnostic kit).
My grit has been so intense that even after diagnosed with cancer, I founded my own one-man startup (2014-2018) even during cancer treatment and recuperation (cured 5 years ago) to still carry out researches, consultations and look for fundings. This cancer experience makes me feel the drug, or the end product is all that matters. Hence, my future career path is opened to do work closer to users/customers for addressing their needs (not necessary in biomedical field).
I aspire to become a key member of an education/research/industrial organization, and/or a startup founder for creating more impact to our society. In this way, end users/customers could be benefited from the applied research, services, or prototypes/products. Alternatively, more people/students could be evangelized to create more impact in future.
Clement Yuen received his B.Eng and Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, with about 15 years of bioengineering post doctoral research. Key experience is in material ideation, fabrication, and optimization for devices to be used in optoelectronics, nanomaterials, plasmonics, optics, bioengineering, biosensors, biomedical imaging, biomedical analysis, diagnosis. He has published 1 patent and 5 invention disclosures, 1 invited book chapter, 33 international technical journals papers (15 first-author papers), and 25 conference papers (1 keynote, 1 invited, and 1 awarded for sponsorship).
He was principal investigators for multiple funding sources and managed over 300k SGD (about 216k USD). His publications have been cited for about 1700 times, with a H index of 21, and an i10-index of 28 (google scholar). His research received coverage from CNA and a series of other media.
Due to these proposals and works, awards and grants were received, e.g., Singapore Lee Kuan Yew post-doctoral fellowship. Additionally, he also has experience in founding a startup, serving as editors/editorial board member/reviewer in journals, lecturing at NTU, and coaching at LinkedIn.
Ph.D., Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University with thesis title: "Zinc Oxide ultraviolet light-emitting devices: design and fabrication", sponsored by A*STAR, Singapore graduate fellowship.
B.Eng., Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, with specializing in Electronics Engineering for the final year. Final year project title: "Development of an automatic field emission measurement system", achieving the remote/local monitoring and automation of equipment in experiment.
