I'm an investment analyst working for a single-family office where I look for undervalued companies to invest in. I conduct fundamental research into the company before building financial models to obtain the intrinsic value of the company. I also look at financial ratios to determine how cheap or expensive the company is relative to its competitors. We use a combination of stocks and options to build our positions.
We also have a long volatility portfolio, a short-term trading options strategy where we buy straddle and calendar spreads for companies approaching earnings where the increasing implied volatility creates the “edge”. I back-test each stock going back 8-12 earnings cycles to find companies on which this strategy has been consistently profitable. Being a small team, I also communicate with our clients through weekly reports on how our positions are doing and forecast what lies ahead for the markets based on various economic data and technical indicators.
