Personal Statement – Mark Dozier
I have been a teacher for two decades and a homeroom teacher for three years. Being a homeroom teacher has given me the most gratification because I have had the most impact on the students. I believe that the purpose of education is cultivating lifelong learners and I have dedicated my life to helping young people become independent, growth-mindset problem solvers, critical thinkers, and principled global citizens.
I believe that I have the necessary skillset and experience to compliment your campus.
Everything begins in the classroom with setting high expectations and logical consequences, and then being consistent. Young people thrive when they know how to “rules the game.” Positive narration, clear norms and routines, high expectations, and consistency will create a classroom environment that is secure and ready for learning.
Inquiring minds must be cultivated, encouraged, and empowered, so teachers must take a holistic approach to impart skills and understandings that are transferable and lasting. Concept-based curriculum which is focused on skills and transdisciplinary teaching that aligns core subjects is ideal. I believe in a curriculum which incorporates these aspects is the best for cultivating independence and transferable skills which learners can apply to real-world problem solving.
My sincere thanks for your consideration.
