About this course
Suitable for anyone who enters records, invoices or structured information. You will establish a typing baseline, practise posture, home-row and numeric-keypad technique, and track speed separately from errors. At work, the result is a more consistent entry process and a clearer way to spot where checking is needed. This module establishes your personal data entry baseline before any technique changes. You will measure your current typing speed and error rate on a standard passage, then rebuild your foundation — posture, home row positioning, and numeric keypad use — through a structured weekly practice plan that tracks both accuracy and speed side by side. This module removes the mouse from repetitive work through ten hands-on drills. You will practice universal system and application shortcuts, window and clipboard management, text expansion for repeated phrases, and file organization habits that keep every document findable. By the end, you will move through data entry tasks faster and with less cognitive load. This module transforms your spreadsheet from a passive grid into an active safety net. You will learn how to enforce correct data formats, build validation rules and dropdowns that block bad entries at the source, use conditional formatting to spotlight anomalies, and clean up inherited messy files with a repeatable workflow. Every technique is demonstrated in Google Sheets so you can practice for free in your browser. Speed means nothing without trust. In this module you will build a personal quality control system for your own data entry work: double-pass verification, spot-check sampling, and a structured error log that surfaces patterns over time. You will also learn how to handle confidential information responsibly during a realistic client handoff. This capstone module brings together everything you have learned about data entry and digital productivity into a single realistic project. You will process a messy dataset, verify your work, and prepare a professional handoff document that a teammate could reuse. By the end, you will have a portfolio-ready deliverable that demonstrates your ability to work cleanly, accurately, and efficiently.
What you'll learn
- Measure your baseline typing speed in words per minute (WPM) and your error rate on a standard passage
- Apply correct posture, hand positioning, and home row technique to reduce strain and errors
- Build a weekly practice plan that tracks accuracy and speed as two separate metrics
- Use the numeric keypad with touch-typing technique for faster numeric entry
- Recognize when to prioritize accuracy over speed in real data entry work
- Execute at least 20 keyboard shortcuts fluently across Windows, macOS, and browsers
- Manage multiple windows, tabs, and clipboard entries without reaching for the mouse
