About this course
This course is for drivers entering route work and colleagues who prepare or receive dispatches. You will read a route assignment for safety and service controls, complete a practical pre-departure check, record and escalate defects or document mismatches, and explain a safe handoff in an interview or supervised shift. Practise the first-day driver routine: dispatch brief, vehicle inspection, load and document checks, defect escalation and route handoff. Apply this focus in sequence: A route starts with a current vehicle, load, document and schedule check, not just an ignition key. Plan a route around vehicle constraints, access, fatigue, breaks, weather, traffic and disciplined roadside communication. Apply this focus in sequence: A route is workable only when time, vehicle, access, breaks, rest and load are all considered. Practise cargo checks, restraint, customer access, proof of delivery and escalation for partial or damaged handoffs. Apply this focus in sequence: A driver accepts custody only after count, condition, identity, capacity and restraint are checked. Practise scene safety, breakdown reporting, near-miss documentation, customer communication and vehicle handback without overstepping your role. Apply this focus in sequence: Protect people and the scene first, then use the correct emergency, transport, maintenance or security route. Close routes accurately, communicate with customers, use performance measures safely and demonstrate driver competence with evidence. Apply this focus in sequence: Close each stop with the status and evidence that reflect what physically happened.
