About this course
This course is for learners entering nursing or working alongside nurses who need a clear professional frame. You will define purpose, authority and accountability, distinguish in-scope tasks from work requiring another role, and identify practical signals used to assess safe, role-appropriate performance on the floor. This module establishes what nursing actually is as a professional practice: what a nurse is authorized to do, where those boundaries end, and how quality is measured. You will learn to distinguish nursing from adjacent roles, apply scope-of-practice thinking to real situations, and recognize the observable standards that define competent care. By the end, you will have a working mental model for making role-appropriate decisions on the floor. This module helps you build a reliable, repeatable workflow for a nursing shift. You will learn how to organize your tasks from the moment of handover, apply prioritization frameworks like ABC and Maslow, and adjust dynamically when the unexpected happens. By the end, you will have a personal shift template you can adapt to any clinical setting. This module teaches you how to communicate clearly with patients, families, and healthcare teams, and how to document nursing care accurately. You will practice structured handoffs, learn charting principles, and apply frameworks that reduce errors and improve continuity of care. This module equips beginner nurses with practical tools to recognize quality and safety risks during daily practice, respond proportionately, and escalate concerns through the right channels. You will learn how policies, incident reporting, and structured communication protect both patients and staff. By the end, you will be able to spot early warning signs and act with confidence. This capstone module puts the full nurse workflow into action through a realistic patient brief. You will assess, prioritize, plan interventions, document findings, and produce a structured handoff using SBAR. By the end, you will have a portable template you can reuse in any clinical setting.
