Ukulele Sprouts is a kids program for beginner music students ages 4-10 which introduces and focuses on fundamentals of playing stringed instruments using group classes, games, and original songs.
In addition to teaching in private after school programs, we have partnered with Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) after school programs to offer Ukulele Sprouts to students K-5th. Our one-hour Uke Sprouts classes take place at various elementary schools in the Nashville area for one hour after school (times vary between 2:45p-5:15p).
Ukulele Sprouts is searching for teachers to teach classes for the Spring 2025 semester and beyond. Some experience playing strings is necessary but the most important skill is the ability to work with young children in a group setting. Time commitment is 1 hour for the class, (not including travel time to the school). Multiple classes, days and locations are available. Class sizes are anywhere from six to twenty students varying in age range and abilities with an age difference between students of no more than two years.
We are looking to hire up to two teachers.
Depending on the assigned school, teachers will be responsible for:
- gathering and moving groups of students; roll-taking
- tuning ukuleles
- teaching ukulele chords
- instructing, leading and singing songs; building on student improvement
- executing group activities
- proper dismissal and release to parent/guardians, etc.
- classroom clean-up
Qualifications for this teaching job:
- demonstrated history of and ability to work with large groups of children
- familiarity and ability to play a stringed instrument (ukulele, guitar, violin, mandolin, etc.)
- ability to travel to schools around Nashville-Davidson-Franklin area (personal vehicle required); ability to lift and move bins of instruments
- commitment to a weekly day/location for the duration of the semester (for example: every Tuesday January through May; we follow MNPS calendar)
- pass a criminal background check for working with minors
While there is a structured curriculum in place, we are looking for teachers who are ready to bring and introduce new songs and activities to the curriculum. Applicants who have prior teaching experience are preferred, particularly in music education.
Ukulele Sprouts is incorporated under and a derivative of The Nashville School of Traditional Country Music-- a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization chartered in the State of Tennessee-- dedicated to Passing on and Preserving the Original Sounds of American Country Music.
Pay: From $100.00 per hour
