About The Role We are seeking a passionate and experienced Android Developer to join our dynamic team at Cruise Planners. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building high-quality, user-focused Android applications using Kotlin as the primary programming language, complemented by a solid understanding of Java. This role involves working on both new development initiatives and modernizing existing codebases to enhance application performance and user experience.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including designers, backend developers, and product managers, to deliver robust, scalable, and intuitive mobile solutions. This position offers a hybrid work environment, with Mondays and Fridays remote, and Tuesdays through Thursdays on-site. The successful candidate will own the full Android development lifecycle—from planning and implementation to deployment and ongoing maintenance—contributing significantly to our mobile platform’s growth and excellence.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field, coupled with at least five years of professional experience in Android application development. Demonstrated proficiency in Kotlin is essential, along with a strong understanding of Java.
Experience in modernizing legacy Java codebases to Kotlin and Jetpack Compose is highly desirable. A proven track record of releasing applications on the Google Play Store, with a portfolio of successful projects, is required. Candidates should have deep knowledge of Android SDK, Android Studio, and best practices in Android development.
Familiarity with MVVM architecture, Jetpack libraries, dependency injection, and reactive programming with Kotlin Coroutines and Flow is necessary. Knowledge of RESTful API integration, Firebase services, and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or Bitrise will be advantageous. Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and within Agile teams.
Candidates must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States, as we are unable to sponsor employment visas.
Responsibilities Your primary responsibilities will include designing and developing advanced Android applications that are robust, responsive, and user-friendly. You will maintain and modify existing applications, perform maintenance programming, and undertake custom programming tasks as directed by senior staff. The role involves collaborating with project teams, designers, and other developers to define, design, and deploy new features and functionalities that align with business goals and user needs.
You will be responsible for translating product and UX requirements into high-quality, maintainable code with minimal supervision. Additionally, you will review, refactor, and optimize existing codebases for performance and readability, proactively identifying potential bottlenecks or architectural issues early in the development process. Supporting QA teams with troubleshooting and debugging is also part of your role.
You will stay current with the latest Android ecosystem developments, evaluate new tools and libraries, and contribute to continuous improvement of the development workflow. The position requires owning the full Android development lifecycle, from initial planning through deployment and ongoing updates.
