About the RoleWe're looking for a hands-on Assistant Controller to support accurate financial reporting, inventory and cost accounting, margin analysis, and cash visibility across a fast-growing, multi-brand consumer goods business.
This role is ideal for a Senior Accountant or Assistant Controller who wants more ownership, closer partnership with leadership, and a defined path into a Controller role as the company scales.
Gray Industries LLC operates a portfolio of consumer brands including Sweetish and Drøm, alongside U.S. distribution and operational partnerships for CandyKing US and Wally & Whiz US. Our business spans retail, e-commerce, wholesale, and fulfillment, with a strong focus on operational discipline, margin protection, and thoughtful growth.
For CandyKing US and Wally & Whiz US, Gray Industries serves as the authorized U.S. representative, distributor, and operator. This role supports U.S.
operations only and does not include:
Consolidation of foreign parent company financials
Group-level reporting outside of U.S. operationsThe Assistant Controller will work with U.S.-based sales, inventory, pricing, and profitability data related to these brands as operated by Gray Industries.
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
Support and execute monthly close activities
Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
Assist with income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow reporting
Improve close accuracy, documentation, and timelines
Inventory, COGS & Landed Cost (Primary Focus)
Maintain inventory accounting and monthly reconciliations
Track true landed cost (product cost, freight, duties, tariffs, warehousing, fulfillment)
Reconcile inventory across WMS, Shopify, Faire, and accounting systems
Track shrink, write-offs, and obsolescence
Pricing & Margin Support
Produce SKU-level and channel-level margin analysis
Support pricing and promotion decisions with cost and contribution margin data
Identify underperforming or underwater SKUs
Cash Flow & Working Capital
Assist with weekly cash reporting
Support 13-week cash flow forecasting
Monitor AP/AR timing and vendor payment schedules
Flag potential cash risks early
Accounting Operations & Process Improvement
Support AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger activities
Assist with revenue recognition across DTC, wholesale, and retail
Maintain accounting schedules and documentation
Support CPA firm with tax filings and year-end close
Help improve accounting systems, processes, and controls as the business grows
Controller-Track Growth Path
Within 12–24 months, this role is expected to grow into a Controller position with ownership of:
Full month-end close
Inventory, COGS, and landed cost
Cash flow forecasting and budgeting
Deeper pricing and margin analysis
Direct partnership with leadership and banking partners
4–8 years of accounting or finance experience
Experience in inventory-heavy businesses (CPG, food, retail, wholesale)
Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or Assistant Controller background preferred
CPA or CPA-track a plus (not required)
Strong Excel skills and comfort working with detailed data
Experience with multi-channel revenue (DTC, wholesale, retail) a plus
Compensation & Perks
$75,000, depending on experience, with a clear path to Controller-level compensation as responsibilities expand.
