Job DescriptionThe Control Systems Engineer II designs, installs, adapts and integrates PLC-based systems used to monitor processes and control equipment at the customer's location.
Being a Control Systems Engineer II requires the achievement of either a bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent relevant work experience.
Reading and interpreting project drawings and specifications
Control Panel design, I/O List creation, and Bill of Materials selection
PLC, HMI, & SCADA programming
Configuration and deployment of telemetry systems (radios, cellular, Wi-Fi, fiber optic networks) and networking equipment
Wiring terminations to field equipment and troubleshooting
On-site system startup, testing and debuggingFamiliarity with Instrumentation, PLC, HMI and SCADA systems is necessary, and competency within one or more software applications used to design and implement these systems is required.
A Control Systems Engineer II is capable of working independently, while also occasionally being directed by more senior engineers, project managers and/or the Engineering Manager in other aspects of the work.
Work Environment The Control Systems Engineer II position is based out of our Rockdale Texas office. The position will require a significant amount of work at customer locations within a 4-hour radius from the office. This on-site work will average 50%-60% of the work week, and travel will be via a company-issued vehicle. Overnight travel will be necessary at times depending on the location of the job site.
Skills/Knowledge/AbilitiesCompetency with Instrumentation, PLC, HMI, SCADA and telemetry systems; familiarity with water/wastewater (preferred); competency with Microsoft Office applications; knowledge of control systems and devices; experience and ability to evaluate both electrical and mechanical CAD drawings; working knowledge of construction & engineering contract formats as well as AIA documents; interpretation of documents that translate to project requirements.
Effective interpersonal relationship skills and abilities, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe role of a Control Systems Engineer II is that of a contributing team member on large, integrated control systems projects—serving as a lead for selected technical work while working under the direction of the project manager.
For smaller scale projects, the engineer would also act as the project manager.
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Maintain clear and regular lines of communication with Project Managers and the Engineering Manager.
Demonstrate knowledge and familiarity with General Control Systems' processes and procedures as applicable for performance of job duties.
Provide engineering support for the development of control systems as specified by Project Managers and the Director of Engineering.Develop and utilize expertise in industrial controller programming languages, communications protocols, human-machine interface and SCADA application packages, as directed by Engineering Manager.
Apply knowledge to integrate instrumentation and equipment for projects.
Employ telemetry techniques and hardware solutions to establish remote communications.
Develop and test control system hardware associated with the assigned projects.
Create and maintain project documentation as defined in applicable General Control Systems procedures.
Provide field support for project activities as needed including installation, startup and testing at project site.
Responsible for completing assigned tasks in accordance with the job budgets and schedules.
Responsible for regular and effective customer and stakeholder communications.
Attend and contribute with status updates to weekly internal project meetings.
Any other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the Engineering Manager.

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Science or equivalent experience.Experience programming PLC, HMI, & SCADA systems in one or more of the major manufacturers' platforms (Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Siemens, etc.).
Experience with industrial instrumentation (flow, pressure, level, etc.).
Experience with telemetry systems and network configuration.
