Job description

Data Engineer II

100% Remote | 6–12 Month Contract-to-Hire

We're looking for a hands-on Data Engineer to join a growing data engineering team within a large healthcare organization. This is a great opportunity for someone with 2–4 years of experience who enjoys building data pipelines, working with cloud-based data platforms, and solving real-world data challenges.

The team is actively shifting toward Snowflake, so we're particularly interested in engineers who have practical Snowflake experience and understand how to build, maintain, and optimize data pipelines in a production environment.

You'll have the opportunity to work on both new pipeline development and enhancements to existing data processes, using Python, SQL, Snowflake, and modern CI/CD practices.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Build, maintain, and modify data pipelines in a cloud-based environment.
  • Develop and support ETL processes, data transformations, and data ingestion workflows.
  • Work extensively with Snowflake to process, transform, and manage large datasets.
  • Use Python and SQL for data processing, querying, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop new pipelines while enhancing and optimizing existing ones.
  • Support production data engineering environments and resolve pipeline issues.
  • Implement data validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Utilize GitLab or GitHub and CI/CD processes to promote code and pipeline changes across environments.
  • Collaborate with engineers and business partners to translate technical requirements into effective data solutions.
Required Experience & Skills
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4 years of data engineering experience.
  • Hands-on Snowflake experience.
  • Experience with cloud-based data engineering and production cloud environments.
  • Experience building, modifying, and supporting data pipelines.
  • Strong SQL skills, including querying and data transformations.
  • Python experience for data processing and pipeline development.
  • Understanding of ETL processes and data modeling.
  • Hands-on CI/CD deployment experience. You should understand how code and pipeline changes are promoted across environments.
  • Experience with GitLab or GitHub.
  • Experience with data validation, troubleshooting, and working with large datasets.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Experience

  • Databricks experience.
  • Experience establishing new data pipelines from the ground up as well as modifying existing workflows.
  • Familiarity with modern cloud data architectures and automated deployment practices.
The Kind of Person Who Will Thrive Here

We're looking for someone who is technically strong but also enjoys being part of a collaborative team. Communication matters. You'll need to be comfortable explaining technical concepts, working through challenges with colleagues, and translating business needs into practical engineering solutions.
