THE ROLE
As the Engineering Manager, App Technology, you will:
Directly manage a squad of developers and QA engineers, providing mentorship, career development, and performance management, ensuring the squad consistently delivers high quality workBuild a collaborative team culture through participating in hiring decisions, onboarding new team members, and creating individual development plansDefine and communicate the technical vision and roadmap for your product area, balancing short-term delivery with long-term architectural goals while ensuring alignment with broader platform strategyEstablish and uphold technical standards and system design principles, guiding architecture decisions, managing technical debt, and maintaining best practices through code reviews and structured processesPartner cross-functionally with Product Managers and Designers to shape solutions, validate feasibility, and recommend technical approaches that enhance user experienceDrive delivery excellence through agile leadership, removing blockers, tracking team velocity and quality metrics, and communicating progress and commitments to stakeholdersProvide strategic technical support through selective hands-on coding for critical items, high-level code reviews, and advanced debugging, while serving as the escalation point for complex production issues and ensuring knowledge sharing across the teamTHE QUALIFICATIONS The Engineering Manager, App Technology has:
Proven and best-in-class skills in React Native app development, as well as experience leading and overseeing developers & QA/QE/SDETStrong proficiency in React Native, experience with modern JavaScript/TypeScript, and integrations with eCommerce-specific challenges (catalogs, search, cart, checkout flows)Working knowledge of backend technologies (Node.js, APIs, databases) to guide architecture and review codeExperience with commerce platforms (Salesforce Commerce Cloud)Understanding of testing strategies and ability to ensure robust test coverageFamiliarity with payment integrations, inventory management, SEO, and customer experience optimizationKnowledge of app performance optimization and conversion rate principlesProven ability to lead and mentor developers and QA engineers, with experience in resource planning and sprint managementExcellent communication skills to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and make decisions under pressureA growth mindset with enthusiasm for leadership development, strategic thinking, and building inclusive, high-performing teamsA commitment to learn, apply, champion and enrich Aritzia's Values and Business and People Leadership principlesThe skills to collaborate strategically with cross-functional partners in the pursuit of shared business outcomesThe ability to set clear objectives and design a strategy that inspires the teamA dedication to quality and investing in results and new business opportunities that add valueTHE COMPENSATION The typical hiring range for this position is $120,000–$200,000 per year. The final agreed upon salary may vary based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience. Additionally, this position may be eligible for bonus.
