Job description
Responsible for cleaning and servicing assigned areas throughout the hospital, clinics, and Independent Senior Building (ISB) facilities. Performs routine and repetitive housekeeping duties as assigned by the manager.
Essential Job Functions:
Department Oversight (10%)
- Conduct inventory of housekeeping and laundry supplies and submit orders as needed.
- Monitor and maintain required quality assurance forms and logs.
- Maintain current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all cleaning chemicals.
- Attend monthly Quality Assurance meetings with the Director of Human Resources.
- Assemble and transport cleaning materials and supplies to assigned work areas.
- Clean assigned areas by mopping floors, washing furnishings and equipment, and applying approved cleaning and disinfecting solutions.
- Dust windowsills, blinds, furniture, floors, and equipment using disinfectant-treated cloths and vacuum cleaners.
- Shampoo or spot-clean floors and furniture as needed.
- Clean and polish sinks, tubs, mirrors, and similar fixtures.
- Replenish soap, paper towels, and other dispensable supplies.
- Request assistance when moving heavy furniture or turning mattresses.
- Report maintenance concerns, equipment malfunctions, and unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor.
- Wash walls, ceilings, windows, and screens as assigned.
- Collect, remove, and properly dispose of trash and waste materials.
- Clean wastebaskets and refuse containers and replace liners.
- Change resident bed linens following showers and remove soiled linens as necessary.
- Machine scrub floors in dining rooms, physical therapy areas, and other designated locations.
- Remove and replace privacy curtains and window coverings for laundering as required.
- Previous housekeeping or environmental services experience in a healthcare setting
- None required
- Ability to understand and follow detailed written and verbal instructions in English.
- Knowledge of housekeeping methods, equipment, and cleaning products.
- Ability to safely use and measure cleaning chemicals and disinfectants.
- Knowledge of proper sanitation, infection control, and safety practices.
- Ability to identify and report hazards, equipment issues, and maintenance needs.
- Demonstrates a friendly, courteous, and professional demeanor.
- Maintains a service-oriented attitude while interacting with residents, patients, visitors, and staff.
- Promotes teamwork and supports departmental goals.
- Regular exposure to cleaning chemicals and disinfectants.
- Possible exposure to contaminated linens and infectious materials while following established safety and infection control procedures.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and stretching.
- Ability to perform repetitive movements associated with housekeeping and laundry tasks.
- Ability to work extended periods in a physically demanding environment
