About the NYG&B Founded in 1869, the NYG&B is the oldest and largest genealogical organization in the state of New York and actively works to preserve, record, and share the stories of New York families.
The NYG&B serves thousands of members across the United States through its website, , publications, and programs.
Digitize New York is a key initiative of the NYG&B and includes three Digitization Centers across the state:
New York City (opened 2022), Syracuse (opened 2024), and Buffalo (opened 2025).
Position Overview The Part-Time Image Processing Operator carries out image processing of scanned material at the direction of Manager, Digital Collections, within the NYG&B's New York City Digitization Center.
The position works with a core element of the NYG&B's mission:
to preserve and make accessible physical collections of historical material from across New York state.
This in-person, part-time position requires the physical presence of the Operator at the New York City Digitization Center, located in Midtown, Manhattan for up to 16 hours a week.
Perform quality control and basic edits on large batches of archival images using LIMB image processing software.
Review and apply standard image adjustments as needed, including crop/framing, rotation, deskew, brightness/contrast, and other corrections.
Follow file naming conventions and file saving paths according to project specifications
Maintain a log of progress, including batches completed, settings used (when relevant), and any quality concerns.
Flag and report quality issues and inconsistencies and issues to the Digitization Team as they arise.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, and an efficient, accurate approach to editing image files.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.
Experience in LIMB or comparable batch image-processing tools as well as experience with Photoshop, Lightroom, and/or CaptureOne (strongly preferred).
Demonstrated capability to learn new software quickly and comfortable performing repetitive, high-accuracy, detailed work for sustained periods.
Understands core digital image concepts (resolution, cropping, rotation, compression).
An interest in genealogy, archives, libraries, or cultural heritage organizations is beneficial but not required.
