Job description

Who we are

Neros is a defense technology company rebuilding America’s drone industrial base. We design and manufacture high-performance unmanned systems that are tested in combat, iterated at startup speed, and built at massive scale. Our team culture is fast, hands-on, and obsessed with closing the gap between design and deployment.

As drones transform the character of warfare, Neros is delivering the systems the West needs to compete on the modern battlefield and deter the adversaries of democracy. We’re hiring engineers, designers, operators, and builders who want to move fast, take on extreme ownership, and get capability into the hands of warfighters in months, not years.

What you will be doing

Neros is seeking a Operator Interface Design Engineer to contribute to the design of new peripheral systems including display systems, handsets and ground control systems. This is a hands-on, cross-functional, highly technical role that blends hardware and human factors engineering with validation, debugging, and manufacturing support. You will be a key part of Neros' Peripherals Team.

The Operator Interface Design Engineer will oversee projects/products from the proof of concept phase, through design and implementation with DFM in-mind and PFMEA ownership. They will work closely with the rest of the Peripherals Engineering team at all levels of the engineering lifecycle. This role will play a large part in the development, manufacturing and support of new products at Neros.

Key Responsibilities

Blend form, function and DFM requirements to create conceptual designs, and work with the rest of the Peripherals Engineering Team to implement final designs

Utilize skills related to molding, tolerance stack up, thermal design, waterproofing and shock handling into product designs

Utilize Human Factors Engineering and interaction design philosophies to design products meant for battlefield use

Assist in the development of product requirements

Conduct testing, including FPV flights, and provide technical feedback, focusing on peripheral systems

Develop and retain a deep understanding of product functionality and capabilities

Collaborate with engineers on air, ground and peripheral systems, assisting in design feedback, testing, and refinement

Work on precision soldering, mechanical assembly, 3D printing, and related tasks to support rapid prototypes, iteration and testing

Assist in developing and improving test procedures and safety protocols

You should have the following

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Engineering or a related discipline

2+ years of design experience

Proven ability to implement human factors engineering principles

Knowledge or interest in FPV drones or UAVs

Ability to create product concepts, renderings, and work with electrical and mechanical engineers to make those concepts reality

Ability to take product concepts from idea to prototype, using modeling/rendering software, 3D printing, fabrication, soldering and other laboratory skills

Ability to support the engineering lifecycle of a product through design, engineering, manufacturing and future changes

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to executive stakeholders clearly and effectively

Nice to have

FPV pilot

Part 107 (or ability to get one within 4 weeks of starting)
