Battleship IOWA engages guests and students in unique and exciting ways that bring the ship to life by connecting the past with the present and future.
The ship provides the community with a platform for museum tours, veterans programs, educational opportunities and programs, and a venue for special events and community efforts across a wide range of activities throughout the year.
What are we seeking?
A part-time Programs Guide. This role facilities in-person, virtual, and overnight educational programming.
Minimum Expectations and Responsibilities Essential Functions:
Preparation and breakdown of necessary materials for tour route and/or activities
Leading groups of up to twenty (20) individuals through a specified tour route and/or activity
Working as a coordinated team with other guides to maintain flow and timing of programs
Disseminating physical statistics, facts, and stories concerning the historical significance of Battleship IOWA, her former crew members, and guests in an interesting and audience/age-appropriate manner
Engaging students' and veterans' curiosity and prior knowledge by presenting STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) topics, career pathways, and activities in an approachable and fun fashion
Maintaining an overnight fire watch as needed for the Camp Battleship program
Presenting virtual lessons/webinars through various online platforms such as Zoom
Informal teaching or presenting experience preferred
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
Able to follow and provide effective directions
Work well independently and as part of a team
Able to ascend/descend stairs and maneuver through ship passageways and compartments
Able to work with students and veterans
Good public speaking and interpersonal skills
Ability to read and adjust to the needs of an audience
Willingness to learn background information necessary to conduct tours and/or activities successfully
Familiarity with Gmail, Google Drive, Zoom, Google Meet
Dedication to accuracy of information presented
Standing and/or walking for up to 7.5 hours
Frequent lifting, climbing, and twisting
Exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions
Part-time, non-exempt

We do not receive government funding for our operations.
