Job description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage capital projects focused on the design, procurement, and implementation of mechanical systems and equipment upgrades.
  • Drive operational efficiency and cost optimization through strategic project execution and process improvements.
  • Ensure alignment with safety, regulatory, and production standards while delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Identify potential risks and develop mitigation plans to ensure project success. Monitor and manage risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and implement best practices to enhance project efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive project plans including scope, budget, schedule, and deliverables.
  • Lead capital projects focused on mechanical systems and equipment upgrades.
  • Prepare technical specifications, cost estimates, and procurement documentation.
  • Oversee contractor and vendor performance, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and schedule requirements.
  • Conduct technical bid evaluations and recommend contract awards.
  • Track project milestones and manage change orders, RFIs, and progress payments.
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance to identify and implement equipment upgrades that enhance productivity and reduce costs.
  • Define and execute capital projects aimed at improving equipment performance and process efficiency.
  • Support commissioning and integration of new systems into existing operations.
  • Apply tools such as FMEA and root cause analysis to drive continuous improvement.
  • Provide engineering input for mechanical system design, equipment selection, and installation.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and manuals from consultants and suppliers.
  • Ensure all project documentation, including as-built drawings and redlines, is complete and accurate.
  • Ensure all required construction permits are in place, and all required third-party inspections are completed, with any deficiencies addressed.
  • Ensure all projects comply with applicable codes, standards (e.g., ASME, CSA), and regulatory requirements.
  • Support risk assessments and safety reviews related to new equipment and installations.
  • Maintain regular communication with internal stakeholders, including operations, maintenance, and senior leadership.
  • Provide technical reports, presentations, and project updates to management.
  • Authorized to travel and/or entertain on behalf of the Company and to incur the necessary expenses within company guidelines.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's in Mechanical or electrical engineering (or equivalent), 5 years project experience, ideally with construction exposure, Demonstrated capital projects in mechanical/equipment upgrades
  • Minimum 5-7 years of project experience with direct construction experience preferred. Proficient with project planning and execution activities and responsibilities, including project controls/change management, regulatory, contracting, and inspection / quality control. Proficient with brownfields projects and integration with operational teams (assist with commissioning/start-up).
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, including pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, conveyors, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Knowledgeable of SAP (preferred), AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • PMP certification preferred.
  • P.Eng. with APEGA eligibility an asset.
  • Project type exposure: Capital projects involving mechanical systems/equipment upgrades (e.g., pumps, conveyors, compressors, heat exchangers, hydraulics, pneumatics).
  • Regulatory & safety orientation: Experience working to codes/standards (ASME, CSA) and regulatory environments.

    Capital Led Leadership- Led end‑to‑end capital projects (scope, budget, schedule, deliverables; change orders, RFIs, progress payments)

  • Exposure to thermally driven mineral processing environments, including potash, lime, magnesium, gypsum, or cement calcination, will be considered an asset.
