Requirements
Must have:
- Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline or physics - Over 1 year of experience in a manufacturing, quality, and/or design engineering role (internship or team project experience is acceptable) - Excellent collaboration and communication skills with a passion for enhancing reliability in innovative technologies - Advanced degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, materials engineering, or chemical engineering is preferred - Proven experience applying process controls in high-volume manufacturing, testing, and quality environments - Familiarity with quality tools such as root cause analysis, corrective actions, Lean principles, measurement systems analysis, experimental design, statistical process control, advanced product quality planning (APQP), metrology, and process failure mode effects analysis (PFMEA) - Commitment to implementing Lean quality practices without compromising safety or reliability - Experience in developing or supporting complex mechanical assemblies, propulsion systems testing, castings/additive manufacturing, materials engineering, CNC machining, bonding, and avionics integration - Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and offsite as required
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with design engineering and manufacturing teams during product development and production to establish quality plans for flight hardware, including identifying key characteristics and planning inspections - Create, integrate, and validate Lean testing and inspection processes for both new and established products and procedures to ensure objective criteria and consistency in quality goals - Track the performance of products and processes throughout production ramp-ups using a variety of quality analysis tools - Conduct regular build quality evaluations to confirm that design intentions are fulfilled; seek opportunities for risk mitigation and simplification in designs and processes to enhance manufacturability - Analyze production, testing, and flight failures to identify and address immediate and underlying root causes, thereby enhancing design reliability - Supervise containment of non-conforming or questionable products, providing support to quality inspectors, technicians, and shop supervisors for quarantine and rework actions - Assist in advancing continuous improvement on the shop floor by establishing standard rework procedures, reducing unnecessary inspections, and optimizing critical processes
