Senior Application Support Engineer (Java)

Requirements

Must have:

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience - 5 - 7+ years in application/production support or a production engineering role with complex systems - Experience with large-scale, interconnected web or distributed applications in production - Proficiency in SQL, with a preference for Oracle and/or PL/SQL - Strong understanding of Linux operating systems (Windows knowledge is a plus) - Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python and shell required; Perl is a plus) - Familiarity with version control and CI/CD systems (Git-based workflows; GitLab preferred) - Demonstrated ability to perform structured troubleshooting and root cause analysis in high-pressure situations - Exceptional communication skills, capable of conveying technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences - Availability for on-call rotation and occasional off-hours deployments

Responsibilities:

- Ensure the reliability, performance, and stability of Tradewebs electronic bond trading platform across various environments - Lead real-time incident responses, conduct thorough root cause analyses, and apply permanent solutions to prevent recurrence - Develop and sustain a comprehensive architectural understanding of a high-throughput, low-latency trading platform covering web apps, backend services, databases, and market connectivity systems - Design and improve system instrumentation, monitoring, and alerting to enhance observability and minimize operational noise - Initiate automation projects to remove repetitive manual tasks and boost operational efficiency - Oversee production deployments, coordinate releases, and conduct business continuity testing for controlled, low-risk releases - Contribute to modernization efforts in CI/CD pipelines, deployment tools, and reliability engineering practices - Collaborate closely with development, infrastructure, and business teams to identify system enhancements and improve platform resilience - Participate in a production on-call rotation to support a mission-critical trading environment
