Salary: $123,000 - 163,000 per year Requirements:
- 6+ years of experience building backend services with Java 21, including at least 2 years working with microservices and event-driven systems.
- Strong command of Java 21, object-oriented programming, and concurrency, with production experience using Spring Boot and Spring Cloud.
- Demonstrated production experience with AWS services such as DynamoDB, Kinesis, SQS, SNS, KMS, API Gateway, ECS/EKS, Lambda, IAM, and RDS.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code or Copilot, with the judgment to review AI-generated code.
- Strong testing practices using JUnit, Mockito, and integration testing.
- Must be based in the Miami or Fort Lauderdale area and available for a contract engagement described as 100% on-site.
- Nice to have: Financial services or payments experience, including payment messaging standards such as ISO 20022 or the legacy FAIM (Fedwire) format.
- Nice to have: Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Nice to have: Infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK.
- Nice to have: Familiarity with workflow and orchestration engines such as Temporal, Camunda, or AWS Step Functions.

Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and deploy Spring Boot microservices in line with team standards, taking ownership of code from design through production.
- Implement asynchronous publish/subscribe messaging and manage distributed transactions using saga or orchestration patterns.
- Design and consume REST APIs, webhooks, and subscription APIs, and contribute to API contracts and versioning.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code for services running primarily on AWS.
- Diagnose and resolve issues across distributed services using observability tools such as New Relic, Datadog, or OpenTelemetry for logs, traces, and metrics.
- Integrate LLMs into services using capabilities such as function or tool calling, structured outputs, and the Model Context Protocol; develop agentic workflows with appropriate safety and governance, including guardrails and PII/PCI handling for a regulated environment.
