Senior QA Automation Engineer – AltoIRA
Role Summary
As a Senior I QA Automation Engineer at AltoIRA, you will own test architecture and automation for key domains. You’ll work closely with engineers, product managers, and other partners to embed quality throughout the development lifecycle, enabling teams to ship complex, regulated workflows with confidence. You’ll also mentor other engineers and help drive continuous improvement across the organization.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and own scalable automated test frameworks for APIs and end-to-end workflows supporting account opening, funding, and alternative asset transactions.
- Lead quality planning early in the development lifecycle by partnering with product and engineers to review requirements, surface risks, and define robust acceptance criteria and test strategies.
- Own test automation for medium to large, cross-functional initiatives, driving projects from design through release with minimal oversight.
- Continuously improve test architecture, reliability, performance, and maintainability, setting standards to reduce flakiness and increase signal across teams.
- Serve as a quality advocate in code reviews, influencing testability, coverage, and best practices across squads.
- Debug and troubleshoot complex, multi-service failures in test and production environments, leading root cause analysis and remediation efforts.
- Partner with engineers and incident response teams during production issues, validating fixes, contributing to postmortems, and driving systemic improvements to prevent regressions.
- Mentor and support other QA automation engineers, sharing best practices and raising the overall quality bar.
Qualifications
- Typically 5–8+ years of professional experience in QA automation, software engineering, or a related role with deep expertise in automated testing.
- Required: Proven experience owning quality automation for fintech and/or investment technology systems with strong correctness and auditability requirements (e.g., KYC/AML, funding, transactions, reconciliations, reporting, and controls).
- Strong proficiency in at least one programming language used for test automation (preferably TypeScript with Cypress), with the ability to evaluate, adopt, and evolve testing tools and frameworks.
- Extensive experience testing RESTful APIs, backend services, and complex end-to-end workflows.
- Advanced debugging and problem-solving skills, with the ability to reason about distributed systems and ambiguous failures.
- Deep understanding of automated testing principles, test architecture, and quality engineering best practices.
- Proven experience working in agile environments and influencing quality outcomes across teams.
Bonus / Nice-to-Have
- Experience designing CI test pipelines (parallelization, test selection, reporting).
- Exposure to observability tooling (logs, metrics, traces) and using it to debug failures.
- Knowledge of security and compliance testing patterns in regulated environments.
