About The Role We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Principal Software Engineer to join our team remotely in the United States. In this senior technical leadership role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining complex software systems tailored for the electric utility and power industry.
Your expertise will guide the technical direction of projects, mentor junior engineers, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and reliable software solutions. This position offers an opportunity to influence critical infrastructure systems, work with a talented cross-functional team, and contribute to innovative projects that impact the energy sector globally.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related technical field
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in software development or SaaS product engineering
- At least 7+ years of experience architecting, designing, and coding large-scale software systems in a microservices architecture
- Extensive experience with API design, integration projects, and high-volume data exchanges with third-party systems
- Proficiency in diving into new codebases, analyzing data for refactoring, and contributing code directly
- Proven experience in architecting and debugging large-scale software solutions with scalability challenges
- Experience working with large datasets and integrating machine learning models into software platforms
- Expertise in Python, PostgreSQL, Nginx, Redis, JavaScript, CSS, HTML5, React, and Node.js
- Working knowledge of database design, SQL queries, and transactions
- Experience with AWS cloud services and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Proficiency in Java programming, including development with Spring Boot for microservices
- Understanding of deployment, scaling, and management best practices in cloud environments
- Preferred: Knowledge of cybersecurity vulnerability assessments and penetration testing
- Preferred: Familiarity with ArcGIS, ArcGIS JavaScript SDK, Quarkus, and software development for the power industry
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of complex software systems, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product management, design, and quality assurance to align development with business needs
- Mentor and coach junior engineers and contractors, fostering technical skill development and career growth
- Stay current with industry trends and incorporate new technologies and methodologies into the development process
- Ensure software quality, reliability, and maintainability by adhering to best practices for coding, testing, and deployment
- Review existing codebases, identify issues, and recommend patches or overhauls to improve system performance
- Define and communicate the technical direction of projects in collaboration with development leads
- Manage technical risks by proactively identifying potential issues and proposing mitigation strategies
- Support code reviews, testing, and deployment activities, ensuring adherence to quality standards
