OverviewWe are a growing insurance company seeking a hands-on Software Manager to build and lead our web technology function from the ground up.

This role will own the architecture, development, and long-term evolution of our client-facing digital platforms, beginning with a modern portal that allows insurance clients to evaluate and select annuity products.

This is a highly hands-on role where you will actively code while also hiring, mentoring, and leading a small engineering team of 5–6 developers.

The ideal candidate is comfortable in a small-company environment, enjoys building structure from scratch, and thrives in an in-office, collaborative setting.

Key Responsibilities

Architect, build, and maintain scalable web applications supporting insurance and annuity products

Lead hands-on development across both front-end and back-end systems

Hire, onboard, and manage a 5-6 person tech team (UI/UX)

Establish technical standards, best practices, and development workflows

Partner closely with business stakeholders to translate insurance requirements into technical solutions

Own system performance, security, reliability, and scalability

Review code, mentor engineers, and lead technical problem-solving

Make pragmatic technical decisions aligned with a small, fast-growing organization

Qualifications

Strong hands-on experience building production-grade applications in TypeScript

Deep expertise with React and

Backend experience with frameworks (Koa, NestJS, or similar)

Experience with both NoSQL and relational databases (MongoDB, PostgreSQL)

Proven experience leading or mentoring engineering teams

Comfortable working in a small company or build-from-scratch environment

Strong communication and leadership skills
