Splunk Engineer

Requirements

Must have:

- Minimum of 2 years of Splunk architecture experience - Proven experience with ingest management, including Edge Processors and Ingest Actions - Familiarity with data routing, filtering, and transformation at ingestion - Track record of onboarding and overseeing a diverse range of data sources - Experience managing Splunk in environments with limited division of responsibilities among teams - Broad experience in Splunk platform operations across multiple functional areas - Strong foundation in cloud technologies, containerization, and modern infrastructure practices - Proficient with Linux systems - Skills in scripting and automation (such as Python or shell) - Hands-on experience with Salt automation for managing Splunk lookup tables - Understanding of contemporary system design, integration patterns, and automation principles - Advanced troubleshooting and critical thinking abilities - Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences - Recent experience in commercial enterprise environments preferred - Background in small team environments with extensive ownership is crucial

Responsibilities:

- Manage end-to-end Splunk data ingestion, focusing on ingest management, Edge Processors, and Ingest Actions - Design, implement, and enhance ingestion pipelines for a variety of enterprise data sources - Lead the onboarding process for new log and metric sources while ensuring data quality and performance - Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and security teams to accommodate new use cases and data requirements - Develop and maintain index strategies, retention policies, and optimize storage - Monitor platform performance, throughput, and latency, identifying potential bottlenecks proactively - Oversee the tuning and optimization of Splunk environments at scale - Manage the Splunk platform lifecycle, including upgrades, patching, and compatibility assessments - Assess and advocate for the adoption of new Splunk features and capabilities - Ensure reliability, stability, and security across Splunk environments - Serve as a senior resource for addressing complex platform issues - Diagnose and resolve issues related to ingestion, indexing, searching, and performance - Lead incident response initiatives related to the Splunk platform and data pipelines - Produce and update high-quality technical documentation for platform architecture and operational procedures - Share knowledge and best practices within and across teams, mentoring junior engineers - Contribute to the continuous enhancement of standards and operational methodologies
