Mid-Level SQL Server Database Developer / Database Engineer

Summary

We are seeking an experienced Database Developer to design, develop, optimize, and maintain reliable database solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong SQL programming skills, hands-on experience with relational databases, and a solid understanding of query optimization, indexing, data integrity, and production support.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain database objects, including tables, views, stored procedures, functions, triggers, and indexes.
• Write and optimize complex SQL queries for applications, reporting, and data-processing requirements.
• Analyze execution plans and resolve query-performance issues.
• Develop efficient database solutions that support scalability, availability, and data integrity.
• Design and maintain data models, schemas, relationships, and database standards.
• Build and support ETL processes, data integrations, and database migrations.
• Troubleshoot blocking, deadlocks, timeouts, failed jobs, and other production issues.
• Perform data validation, reconciliation, cleansing, and transformation.
• Implement database security, access controls, and data-protection standards.
• Collaborate with software developers, data engineers, analysts, architects, and business stakeholders.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, deployments, and release activities.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for database designs and support procedures.
• Support production systems and participate in an on-call rotation when required.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or another relational database platform.

Advanced SQL skills, including:

• Complex joins, subqueries, and aggregations
• Common table expressions and window functions
• Stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers
• Transactions, exception handling, and dynamic SQL
• Temporary tables and data-manipulation statements
• Experience with query optimization, execution plans, indexing strategies, and database statistics.
• Understanding of database normalization, dimensional modeling, and relational database design.
• Experience troubleshooting database-performance and production-support issues.
• Knowledge of backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster-recovery concepts.
• Familiarity with source control, release management, and database deployment processes.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ETL tools such as SSIS, Informatica, Azure Data Factory, Talend, or similar platforms.
• Experience with cloud databases on Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
• Knowledge of reporting and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or SSRS.
• Familiarity with data warehousing and large-volume data-processing environments.
• Experience with database monitoring and performance-analysis tools.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated database deployments.
• Relevant database or cloud certifications.
