SQL Server DBA

The Role

• Design and implement highly available, scalable, and secure Azure and MS SQL Server architectures
• Manage and administer production and non-production MS SQL Server instances, optimising performance
• Administer and validate backup and recovery strategies for Azure and MS SQL Server environments
• Proactively monitor database health, identifying and resolving capacity issues, blocking, and deadlocks
• Implement and enforce database security controls, including logins, roles, encryption, and auditing
• Collaborate with application and analytics teams to improve data solution performance and reliability
• Coordinate database upgrades, patching, and migration activities with minimal business impact
• Develop and maintain detailed documentation for database standards, procedures, and troubleshooting
• Provide advanced incident and problem management support, performing root cause analysis
• Engage in capacity planning and cost optimisation for Azure database services
• Support hybrid work collaboration, sharing expertise in Azure and MS SQL Server administration
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for data platform resilience and efficiency

What You'll Need

• Proven experience in designing and implementing Azure database and MS SQL Server architectures
• Expertise in managing and administering MS SQL Server instances, focusing on performance tuning
• Strong background in administering backup and recovery strategies for database environments
• Proficiency in monitoring database health and proactively addressing performance bottlenecks
• Experience implementing and enforcing database security controls and compliance
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams on data models and integrations
• Skills in coordinating and executing database upgrades, patching, and migrations
• Strong documentation skills for database standards, procedures, and troubleshooting playbooks
• Extensive experience in incident and problem management for database-related issues
• Familiarity with capacity planning and cost optimisation for cloud database services
