40P is a small practice with a reputation for reliability and high standards. We are looking for a Project Engineer to join as a full contributor on active structural projects across Colorado and the western United States. Project engineers work in tandem with Project Managers and Principals to execute the structural design, drafting, and construction administration for small to medium custom residential and commercial projects.

You will be responsible for your projects, communicate directly with architects and contractors, and grow your skills in an environment where your effort is visible and your development is taken seriously. This is a full-time, in-person position based in Longmont, Colorado. Relocation assistance is not provided.

What You'll be Responsible for:

Performing structural design for small and medium residential and commercial projects

Creating building analysis models using RISA, LAVA, or similar design software

Producing structural 3D models, plans, and details using REVIT

Communicating with project managers, architects, and/or contractors to coordinate structural design with other disciplines

Reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and performing field observations

Managing your own time and deliverables across multiple active projects

Earned a degree in civil, structural, or architectural engineering

Completed coursework in structural analysis and design (steel, concrete, wood, masonry, etc)

Worked in structural engineering for 2 to 5 years, with hands-on project experience

Used Revit and RISA (or comparable design tools) in a professional setting

Holds or is actively pursuing a PE or SE license Compensation

This is a full-time position paid on an hourly basis, which means your pay reflects your actual time worked (no more 40+ hour work weeks without compensation). The expected base salary range for a typical full-time schedule is approximately $80,000 to $110,000+ annually, plus the potential for bonus pay. Hourly pay rate range is $42 to $58+ per hour, based on experience and ASCE engineering grade.

Benefits include a 401K with up to 4% company match, $400/month health reimbursement (pre-tax), and $80/month cell phone reimbursement (pre-tax). There is no formal PTO policy. You are responsible for managing your own time, and paid for the time you work.

We estimate full-time work as 1896 hours - the equivalent of a salary with 8 paid vacation days and 3 weeks of vacation. For context, the 2025 ASCE median base salary for a Grade III engineer is $87,209 and the mean base salary for a Grade IV engineer is $109,090. This role is benchmarked at Grade III to Grade IV per ASCE guidelines, with compensation expected to grow as you do.
