Summer Internship - Polymer Processing
Job description
Company Description
Intech is a custom manufacturing company focused on advanced radiation shielding materials and engineered products. We develop and manufacture both traditional and next-generation (lead-free) shielding solutions for medical, industrial, and government applications. This summer, we are hiring a hands-on engineering intern to support polymer extrusion, materials development, and additive manufacturing projects.
This role is ideal for someone interested in materials science, plastics processing, or mechanical engineering. Role Description
This is not a desk internship—you’ll be working directly with polymer extrusion, materials development, and additive manufacturing in a real production environment. What You’ll Work On:
-Compounding and testing filled polymers (PETG, HDPE, elastomers with metal powders)
-Operating filament and pellet extrusion systems
-Troubleshooting real-world issues:
Clogging
Poor dispersion
Diameter inconsistency
-Running experiments to improve material performance and process stability
-Supporting additive manufacturing (3D printing with advanced materials) What We’re Looking For
-Engineering, materials science, or technical background
-Strong interest in polymers, plastics, or manufacturing
-Comfortable working in a hands-on shop environment
-Curious, self-motivated, and able to solve problems independently Why This Role Stands Out
-Work with metal-filled and advanced materials
-Gain real experience in extrusion + additive manufacturing
-Contribute to actual production and R&D projects
-Build a portfolio that goes beyond classroom work Details
