Systems Engineer - Database Admin

Requirements

Must have:

- We require a Bachelors or Associate degree in Computer Science, MIS, or a closely related field, plus ongoing discipline-specific education.

• We seek 3–5 years of hands-on experience in computer operations, applications and/or technical support, or information security.
• We look for a strong interest in and aptitude for problem identification and resolution.
• We need a solid understanding of operating system hardware, software, network components, security, and/or database management systems.
• We value the ability to produce precise audit trails and recovery points throughout project lifecycles to support system stability.
• We expect the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical users, as well as industry vendors.
• We need strong listening skills and the ability to train others confidently.
• We require flexibility to respond to issues with little notice, including off-hours scheduling and participation in an on-call rotation when needed.

Responsibilities:

- We research, design, implement, and maintain our enterprise data storage software, architectures, tools, methods, and best practices.

• We resolve database access and performance issues as they arise.
• We monitor, tune, and allocate physical storage for database systems.
• We develop routines that help end users apply database best practices.
• We evaluate database products, services, protocols, and standards to support procurement and development efforts.
• We continue building our internal database utilities.
• We create database objects and support database architecture development.
• We help establish coding standards and quality assurance policies with application development teams.
• We design and implement recovery plans covering scenarios from single-table restoration to full disaster recovery.
• We define and implement access controls for our data.
• We educate staff on emerging database technologies and practices.
• We test new software releases, products, and hardware devices.
• We help establish standards and issue-tracking procedures.
• We support performance monitoring, reporting, and tuning activities.
• We assist with integrating multiple hardware platforms.
• We participate in disaster recovery planning and rehearsal exercises.
• We design new or updated architectures spanning software, hardware, and communications to meet current and future business needs.
• We stay current on company direction and industry trends.
• We maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• We perform other duties as assigned.

Company:

We are Acuity, and our Database Administration team supports installations of Db2, Microsoft SQL Server, Postgres, and Hive across multiple platforms. We partner with application teams, developers, and data scientists to manage custom and third-party databases, improve query performance, and strengthen data access and performance. This exempt role offers a salary range of $100,000 to $140,000 annually, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes a generous 401(k) contribution, medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid time off, an Employee Assistance Program, and more.
