Dr.
Carrasquilla is a well-rounded neurosurgical oncologist who is passionate about developing a center of excellence for world-class, compassionate neurosurgery care. He holds dedicated training within neurosurgical oncology but cherishes maintaining a wide set of neurosurgical skills. He emphasizes safety in operations, tailoring approaches, innovation and applying surgical adjuncts strategically for best outcomes. Alejandro has significant experience with intra-axial brain tumors with complex functional monitoring needs, including awake craniotomies for decreased length of stay and best clinical results, skull base surgery, minimally-invasive spine, spinal oncology, complex spine and neurosurgical trauma.
After medical school at the University of Pennsylvania, he received broad training at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City with high-volume skull base, spine and tumor experience, including dedicated time at a NYC level I trauma center. Following residency, he completed a neurosurgical-oncology fellowship at the H.
Center, a large Comprehensive Cancer Center, where he learned to tailor surgical solutions for complex pathologies. During fellowship he has further delved into expanded endoscopic and open skull base approaches, intradural and intramedullary spinal tumors, large multidisciplinary spinal cases, and the use of carbon fiber instrumentation. He values minimizing morbidity by employing minimally-invasive surgical and percutaneous techniques. Dr.
Carrasquilla values finding the best treatment for diverse pathologies and looks forward to building a practice that will meet the needs of his patients and community.
Throughout my career, I have prioritized delivering compassionate, evidence-based care to patients with a wide range of neurosurgical conditions. With subspecialty fellowship training in neurosurgical oncology, I excel in tailoring approaches for complex and minimally-invasive tumor resections in both the brain and spine. In addition, I have a wide range of expertise in neurosurgical procedures and treatments for the vast conditions within the realm of neurosurgery.
