I have enjoyed years of classroom teaching and am now looking to translate that experience to a new career. Over the years I have enjoyed summertime travel and outdoor ventures across the globe. I have lived overseas and speak passable Spanish. I consider myself an amateur cook, birder and gardener.
For over twenty-seven years I have worked in mostly public-school settings as an art teacher. Working with students ranging from Pre-kindergarten to High school. As an artist I am interested in a variety of media, but especially enjoy ceramics and pottery work. My art teaching experience also includes periodic after school enrichment programs and summer camp positions. Running an art program necessarily entails some degree of ordering materials and budgeting funds in addition to planning and presenting art lessons. Organization, communication and creativity are prominent strengths of mine as an experienced teacher.
While traveling overseas as a Navy “brat”, I attended University of Maryland in Munich, Germany. The cultural experiences across Europe prepared me for high focus and more maturity in my junior and senior years of college. My most relevant education was the stellar Fine arts program at James Madison University in the blue ridge of Virginia. I had many wonderful professors who were successful working artists. I was mentored and my talents nurtured. One exciting summer art camp job under the leadership of a terrific teacher convinced me to pursue Art Education. I recall making an appointment with Dr. Phil James in which I told him my decision to teach art; I never looked back or regretted my choice.
