Support nuclear projects by developing safety analyses that authorize the procurement and construction of new nuclear facilities or the modification of existing nuclear facilities. In the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) complex, there are over 200 nuclear facilities in need of monitoring and/or maintenance to assure that they cannot experience an accident condition that would result in an uncontrolled release of radioactive material.
This is accomplished by integrating safety into the design process. The applicant was a primary author of a DOE Standard that established a formal process for the integration of safety into a facility design, and he has implemented this standard at multiple DOE nuclear facilities and projects.
