Lab Assistant at UNCW Center for Marine Science (2018-06 – 2018-12)
- Used histological techniques to observe neural ganglia of T. obsoleta. Daily sample preparations included tissue harvesting, fixation, microtome sectioning, staining, slide mounting and electron microscopy analysis.
- Used immunohistochemistry to observe swim muscle in various species of jellyfish including A. victoria, N. pileata, C. gregaria, and A. digitale. Learned background reduction by use of bovine serum albumin and analysis by immunofluorescence microscopy.
Volunteer work
- Lab assistant volunteer at Center for Marine Science, assisting graduate students with field sampling and data entry for various species along the Cape Fear River.
- Member of Team Rubicon, veteran-based disaster response organization. Earned FEMA certifications in ICS-100, IS-144, IS-230, and IS-700 in order to be a useful member of the Greyshirt team.
- 2yr volunteer for "Junior's Day" (Littleton, NC)
- 4yr volunteer with Citizens for Animal Protection of Warren County, assisting with vaccination and spay/neuter of animals in my home county. Served as president of CAP in 2015.
