Carl Reid is an NAACP Image Award-nominated writer, director, and producer with over a decade's worth of professional experience in the entertainment industry. As a writer, Carl has worked for Comedy Central writing for their Roast specials, developed high-concept screenplays for Circle of Confusion, and served as a showrunner for multiple series for Kevin Hart's LOL network and Lionsgate. He was a writer and producer for the comedy series, WTF Baron Davis on Hulu and served as the Chief Writer and Head of Development for the production company, No Label, for five years, developing shows and features for Amazon, Warner Brothers, Netflix, and Sony Pictures.
He wrote and co-directed the comedy feature, Domino: Battle of the Bones, starring Snoop Dogg and David Arquette. He is currently a partner at Redbird Entertainment, whose recent thriller, The Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain, swept nearly every festival it played in and secured Morgan Freeman as an executive producer before winning the Gotham Award and receiving several Independent Spirit Award nominations. The film is now available on HBO Max and was also named one of the top ten films of the year on Rogerebert.com.
During the quarantine of 2020, Carl wrote, co-directed, and produced a full, eight-episode season of a half-hour superhero comedy called Grounded, available now on streaming platforms. Redbird's latest horror film, The Ritual, starring Al Pacino and Dan Stevens was theatrically distributed in 2025 by XYZ, and their acclaimed documentary MAMA!, which follows three mothers-turned-activists during the Black Lives Matter movement, is available now on multiple platforms. In 2021, Carl became a development executive for Hulu and Fox Digital Studio (now WorthenBrooks), helping to deliver their horror slate of twenty-two short films and nine features under the Huluween banner, including The Mill starring Lil' Rel Howery, which debuted as the number one film on Hulu.
Mr. Crocket, which Carl co-wrote and produced, also premiered as Hulu's number one film to viral popularity. It was hailed by the New York Times as their "favorite script of the year" and won Fangoria's Chainsaw Award for Best Streaming Film.
Carl was nominated for an NAACP award for his writing on Mr. Crocket. His latest film, Testimony, which he wrote, directed, and produced made its debut at the IFS LA Film Festival, where it won Best Thriller.
His horror comedy, Haunted Heist, starring Tiffany Haddish, Rel Howery, and Brett Gelman will be released in theaters in 2026.
