I am 53 years old. I have been married to Kelly for 30 years. We have four boys ranging in age from 12 to 27. I enjoy the outdoors, yard work and spending time with my family. I have been lead pastor at Covenant for 18 years. I have been immensely happy in this tenure. I am now seeking to make a career change for the betterment of my family as a whole as well as finding a job that focuses in on my greatest strengths. It is important to me for my family, particularly Kelly, to have a church experience in which I am not her pastor/husband. I also want to experience church from the other side of things. Chaplaincy will also allow me to experience our culture to a far greater extent which I think is very imporant. I have found over years of pastoral leadership that meeting people in times of medical need is tremendously significant. It is my desire to help people find a safe space to experience whatever they are going through in a healthy way using whatever resources they have at their disposal.
I have been a lead pastor of local churches for 28 years. I also worked as a full time chaplain in long term care / hospice facility. My experience has helped me develop a deep sense of comnpassion, empathy and regard for others and an ability to help them navigate difficult, uncertain and emotionally challenging circumstances.
Clinical Pastoral Education was by far the most relevant education I have recieved. CPE helped me discover not only who I am but how others experience me as well. It was through CPE that I learned the immense value of understanding myself so I am better able to be truly present with others without unknowingly allowing their difficulty or circumstances trigger unhealthy, reactive responses in me. This awareness of my own anxiety points helps me help others dealing with anxious, challenging situations they are facing.
