I have lived in Anderson for 50 years and am origionally from Meridian, Mississippi. I amd married to Laretta Shumate and have two daughters and five grandchildren. Assignments in work have included pastoring a Church and serving as the president of a National Church Agency.
In addition, I owned the Sears Hometown Store here in Anderson. I have taken courses at Ball State University for the past two summers and just finished a graduate course titled, Multicultural Education. Previously, I have been the president of the Anderson Rotary Club and also served as the Governor of Indiana Rotary for a year.
My education includes a BA from Anderson University, a Masters from Lexington Seminary and a Masters in sociology and a Doctorate in Education from Ball State University. I have the WSI in swimming, 3rd level scuba diver, flying airplanes for 40 years and enjoy skiing, both on water and snow.
Much of my teaching has been with adults. However, I have taught for the past three years at the Anderson High School, teaching US History and Geography and World History. One year at AHS I taught the Wars class.
This past year I taught at the Anderson Intermediate School in the area of an 5th grade alternative class. The reason for any change was the 9-12 grade students coming in to AHS was low and one class was eliminated last year. I really love the high school students and enjoy helping them create the best grades achieved and building healthy relationships with them.
For the past three years I have received a grant from the Mayor of Anderson to take students to the Paint Ball Event and to the nature moments at Mounds State Park. It is such a delight to see them in town working at various jobs and encouraging them to do their best.
BA Anderson University, Masters, Lexington Seminary, Masters in Sociology and a Doctorate In Education from Ball State University.
