Climate and Sustainability Intern: Mayor Regina Romero
In this internship, my primary task was supporting the Climate and Sustainability Advisor on the Tucson Climate Action Plan. This included organizing and workshopping community listening sessions, utilizing qualitative data to guide policy suggestions, and translating complex issues into accessible terminology. I networked with internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, I worked on the content and formatting of weekly newsletters coming from the Romero Office and other administrative tasks.
Campaign Intern: Congressman Raul Grijalva
In this campaign, I learned digital aspects and how to run a contact-free campaign. Working directly under the campaign manager I helped to organize routes for lit drops, utilize Canva for Instagram posts, create phone banking scripts, wrote weekly emails to update and engage volunteers, and run zoom calls to foster a community among important volunteers. I assigned locations for strategically placed signs and created teams to place them.
Arizona List Intern
I worked as a special projects intern where I worked on personal interviews in order to construct a history of the importance of the Arizona List. Specifically, I interviewed Council Member Lane Santa Cruz, Representative Rosanna Gabaldon, and Representative Charlene Fernandez to highlight successful women of color to whom the Arizona List was of paramount importance to in their elections. Additionally, I worked as a liaison from AZ List to help with campaigning.
Campaign Intern: Mayor Regina Romero
I worked under the Field Organizer in this campaign, primarily on voter mobilization and turnout. This involved training volunteers and interns on how to canvass, planning routes and finding target audiences on VAN DNC Votebuilder. I learned about fieldwork, data research and analysis, canvassing, community outreach, and leadership. I learned and helped to foster a community driven political campaign for the people.
Survey of Anti-colonial Environmental Science
In this project, I worked with a partner to create a repository of resources aiming to provide the opportunity to intentionally and respectfully engage with Indigenous and anti-colonial environmental knowledge systems from an asset-based approach. This project is living, growing, intentional, and responsive to guidance from the community, Professors, and Indigenous peoples.
Green River Watershed Restoration Mock Proposal
In this project, I worked with a small group to draft a presentation and paper proposal for a potential restoration project on the Green River. This included deep dives into the inner working of government processes in the State of Washington as well as engaging with technical information about the salmon life cycle, interested parties, environmental impacts, and budget feasibility.
National Water Inequity: Policy Recommendation Mock Proposal
In this project, I worked with a small group to craft a research paper and graphic policy proposal that aims to address inequities in access to clean water and ways to improve federal infrastructure and monitoring in an equitable manner towards Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. This included engagement in existing federal policy, utilization of multimedia and statistical analysis, and collaboration and presentational skills.
